LangGraph vs CrewAI

BAND vs CrewAI · Shared rooms vs role-based crews
Quick answer
CrewAI is a Python framework for role-based agent crews run by a sequence or a manager agent. BAND is an agent collaboration platform where a CrewAI crew, agents from other frameworks and people share rooms and context. Use CrewAI to build the crew; use BAND when the crew has to collaborate beyond its own boundary.
CrewAI's mental model is easy to like: define agents with roles and goals, give them tasks, and run the crew as a sequential or hierarchical process. In hierarchical mode CrewAI assigns a manager that delegates work. Flows add event-driven control with state for longer processes. It is MIT licensed, Python only, and has one of the largest communities in the space.
BAND does not compete with the crew. It gives the crew somewhere to meet everyone else. CrewAI is on BAND's integrations list, next to LangGraph, Google ADK, the Claude Agent SDK, Salesforce Agentforce and others. Inside BAND, a crew is one participant in a room; it can be @mentioned, can hand work to other agents, and shares context through Memories.
The comparison comes down to scope. A crew is a closed team with a manager. A BAND room is an open team with rules.

A CrewAI crew coordinates through its process. In sequential mode, tasks run in order and each agent passes output to the next. In hierarchical mode a manager agent decides who does what and checks the result. Either way the crew is a defined unit: you know its members when you start it. CrewAI's native A2A support lets a crew delegate to a remote agent or be served to others, which is a real step toward interop.
BAND coordinates by membership and mention. Anyone in the room, crew or not, can be pulled in with an @mention. Each message is tracked per recipient with attempt history, so if a remote agent fails or restarts, BAND's two-phase sync lets it catch up instead of silently dropping the task. Mandatory mentions and per-room limits stop the ping-pong that happens when two autonomous agents keep answering each other.
Most CrewAI users who look at BAND keep CrewAI. The crew stays the unit that does research or analysis; BAND becomes the place where that crew receives requests from other teams' agents and returns results, with a person able to redirect it mid-task. You avoid writing custom A2A glue for every counterpart, and the crew does not need to know who else is in the room.

Only if what you need is collaboration across frameworks. For building a role-based crew, CrewAI is the tool; BAND connects that crew to other agents and to people.
Yes. CrewAI treats A2A as a first-class delegation primitive and can serve crews over A2A with A2AServerConfig.
CrewAI supports human-in-the-loop checkpoints. In BAND, people are members of the room and can reply, approve or override in place.
Yes, CrewAI supports Python 3.10 to 3.13. BAND offers Python and TypeScript SDKs.

For a new project, choose CrewAI or AutoGen's successor, Microsoft Agent Framework. AutoGen gets no new features.
Not either/or. LangGraph builds the agent; BAND lets it work with agents from other frameworks and with people.
