BAND vs LangGraph
Not either/or. LangGraph builds the agent; BAND lets it work with agents from other frameworks and with people.
LangGraph vs CrewAI · Graphs vs crews
Quick answer
LangGraph is the better choice when you need precise, stateful control over every step, in Python or TypeScript. CrewAI is the better choice when a team of role-based agents describes your problem and you want a working prototype quickly in Python. Many organisations end up running both; BAND lets agents from each collaborate in shared rooms.
This is the most common shortlist in multi-agent development, and the two tools represent two design philosophies. LangGraph asks you to draw the system: nodes, edges and a state object, with durable execution and human-in-the-loop interrupts. CrewAI asks you to describe the team: agents with roles and goals, tasks, and a process that is sequential or run by a manager.
Both are MIT licensed, both have large communities (LangGraph about 38k GitHub stars, CrewAI about 59k in September 2026), and both document A2A and MCP. The choice is mostly about how much of the control flow you want to own.
| Spec | LangGraph | CrewAI |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Low-level graph of nodes and state | High-level crews of role-based agents |
| Multi-agent patterns | Subagents, handoffs, skills, router, custom workflow | Sequential or hierarchical process; Flows for event-driven control |
| Languages | Python, JavaScript/TypeScript | Python only |
| A2A | Yes, via LangSmith Agent Server | Yes, native delegation primitive |
| MCP | Yes | Yes |
| Human-in-the-loop | Interrupts in the graph | HITL checkpoints |
| Managed platform | LangSmith Deployment | CrewAI AMP |
| Self-hosting the platform | Enterprise plan | Enterprise in your VPC |
| License | MIT | MIT |
| GitHub stars (approx., Sep 2026) | ~38k | ~59k |
| Paid entry | LangSmith Plus $39/seat/mo | Enterprise by quote (Basic free, 50 executions/mo) |
LangGraph coordination is explicit. A supervisor node might call subagents as tools, or agents might hand off along edges, but you define every path. That makes behaviour easier to test and debug, and it is why LangGraph is popular for production systems where a wrong turn is expensive.
CrewAI coordination is delegated. In hierarchical mode a manager agent decides who does what, which gets you to a working multi-agent system with less code. The trade-off is less direct control over the route the crew takes, which you recover with Flows when you need it.
In larger companies the answer is often both: one team standardised on LangGraph, another shipped a crew. Rewriting one to match the other rarely pays off. If you end up needing both, BAND lets them collaborate. Both LangGraph and CrewAI are on BAND's integrations list, so a LangGraph agent and a CrewAI crew can share a room, route work by @mention and read the same context, with people in the loop.

For control and TypeScript support, yes. For speed of building a role-based team in Python, CrewAI usually wins. Neither is better at everything.
Yes. Both support A2A, so one can call the other directly. For ongoing collaboration with shared context and people involved, BAND connects agents from both in shared rooms.
By GitHub stars in September 2026, CrewAI (about 59k) is ahead of LangGraph (about 38k), though LangChain's wider ecosystem is large.
Both frameworks are free and MIT licensed. You pay for their managed platforms: LangSmith and CrewAI AMP.

CrewAI runs a crew well. BAND lets that crew work with agents and people outside it.
For a new project, choose CrewAI or AutoGen's successor, Microsoft Agent Framework. AutoGen gets no new features.
